Braided fishing lines have revolutionized the tactics many anglers use in order to put consistent catches of fish in the boat. Braided line qualities of no stretch, great sensitivity, and thin profile all add up to making it easier for an angler to detect bites and successfully hook fish. Another quality added by some fishing line manufacturers is depth control by way of multicolored strands at stated lengths.

Eposeidon’sKastKing Super Power Multicolored Depth Hunter Braid Fishing line allows an astute angler to add a few arrows into their quiver to help them catch fish. The line is manufactured with 5-colors that change hues every 11-yards. When an angler lets line out from the spool the angler can count colors in order to know how much line is out in the water. This line control can come in certain fishing methods. Trolling lures is a great way to find assorted game fish like bluefish and striped bass. The more ground an angler covers, the greater the chance to presenting the lures to feeding game fish. That in a nutshell is the main advantage of trolling.

Recently, deep diving plugs have become very popular with many trolling anglers. The main reason for this popularity is because theses lures can be presented deep in the water column without the use of wire or lead core line. The most productive deep diver for me over the years has been Mann’s Stretch-30 and 25’s. The Stretch 30 is designed to run at a depth of 30-ft with 150-ft of line in the water. The Stretch 25’s will dive to a depth of 25-ft. of depth with the same amount of line in the water. Before multi-colored braided fishing lines hit the market an angler had to use a reel with a line counter on it in order to accurately judge the amount of line in the water. Thankfully, multi-colored braided line has altered this inconvenience.

I recently tried out Eposeidon’sKastKingDepth Hunter multicolored braided line when I spotted some birds working bait in 60-feet of water off Montauk Point. It’s important for an angler to realize no matter how much feeding activity one sees on the surface of the water there are always many more game fish staying down deeper in the water column because this is where they prefer to live. I instructed my buddy on the boat with me to approach the bird activity nice and slow at trolling speed of about 3-knots. As we got closer to the birds,I clipped on a Mann Stretch 30 to a large snap swivel that was attached to my Eposeidon 50-pound test braided main line with a 10-turn improved clinch knot.I let out 5-colors of braided fishing line from the reel spool into the water, and this put out approximately 165-ft of line in the water. Close enough to the desired 150-ft as per the lure manufacturers instructions. I barely had time to put the trolling rod in a rod holder before a good sized fish almost ripped the rod and reel from my hands. I instructed my buddy on board to put the boat in neutral, so I could more easily fight the fish. After a spirited battle, that contained a few vigorous runs, a quality 25-pound striper was soon being led into the landing net. It sure did not take me long to validate one of the advantages of using a Depth Hunter Braided line.
